Some links on this site earn us money. This page says exactly which ones, how much influence that has on what gets recommended, and how to check us on it.
The disclosure itself
BetterThan.tools takes part in affiliate programmes. When you follow certain outbound vendor links and go on to buy, we may receive a commission. The price you pay is exactly the same — the commission comes out of the vendor's margin, not your wallet. This is disclosed in line with the US FTC's endorsement guidelines and equivalent rules elsewhere.
How to tell which links pay us
Every outbound vendor link on this site goes through /go/ and is marked rel="sponsored nofollow" in the HTML. Any page carrying vendor links shows a disclosure next to the buttons, not buried at the bottom.
Not all of them pay. A large share of the tools covered here run no affiliate programme that we take part in — including several of the most-recommended ones on the site. Those links earn nothing and are there because the recommendation stands on its own.
What this changes about the advice — and what it does not
What it does not change
Whether a tool is recommended, how it is ranked, or what a page says about its weaknesses. Where a cheaper or free tool is the better answer, that is what the page says — including when the free tool pays us nothing and the expensive one would.
What it honestly does change
Which topics get covered at all. A site funded by commissions writes more about paid software than about, say, open-source tooling. That is a real bias and worth knowing about when you read any affiliate-funded site, including this one.
The clearest test of this: several guides here conclude that you should keep the tool you already pay for, or use a free one, or that no purchase is needed. Those pages earn nothing and are published anyway.
Advertising
Separately from affiliate links, the site carries display advertising through Google AdSense. Those ads are selected automatically by Google, not by us. We do not know in advance which advertisers appear, an ad appearing here is not an endorsement, and advertisers get no influence over editorial content. Ads are kept off the policy pages.
