About BetterThan.tools
BetterThan.tools is an independent publisher of software buying guides. It exists for one specific moment: you are already paying for a tool, you suspect you are paying too much, and you want to know what actually happens if you switch.
Why this site exists
Search “Semrush alternatives” and you get twenty near-identical listicles. They rank the same eight products, describe each in a paragraph of marketing language, and never answer the question you actually had — which is not “what else exists” but “will I regret leaving, and what breaks if I do”.
The reason those pages are so similar is usually that they are written to earn commission, so every product listed has an affiliate programme, and none of the conclusions can be “do not buy anything”. That is a genuinely useless outcome for someone trying to cut a software bill.
So the guides here are built backwards from the decision: what job are you doing, what is the cheapest tool that does it properly, and when is staying put the right answer? “Keep what you have” and “a free extension covers this” are both conclusions this site is willing to reach.

Organised by why people leave — price, complexity, one missing feature, team size — because the right replacement depends entirely on the reason.

Straight answers on where ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini genuinely cover a specialist tool's job, and the equally important half: where they do not come close.

Written to answer “should I keep paying for this”, with an explicit section on who should avoid the tool.

Cost calculators, stack finders, and fixes for the problems people actually search for at 11pm.
What this site is not
- Not a review aggregator. There is no user-review dataset behind these pages, and none is claimed.
- Not a vendor, reseller or agency. Nothing is sold here and no vendor gets approval over a page.
- Not exhaustive. Guides cover the realistic options for a decision, not every product in a category.
- Not a pricing database. Prices are shown with the date checked; the vendor's own page is always the authority.
How it is funded
